Railway hospitals, emergency staff on alert

NEW DELHI, DEC. 14. A special train carrying senior railway officials, including the Northern Railway General Manager, R.R. Jaruhar, along with a rescue team with relief material left for the scene of accident between Bhangala-Mirthal stations on the Jalandhar-Pathankot section of Northern Railway around noon today.

Though the possibility of the dead or injured belonging to the Capital or its neighbouring towns is remote as the Jammu Tawi-Ahmedabad Express does not pass through Delhi, yet the railway authorities here have geared up to meet any situation. Railway hospitals as well as emergency staff have also been alerted in Delhi and other divisions of Northern Railway.

Northern Railway also announced helpline numbers at various locations including Jalandhar (0181-2456240, 2456072, 2456073, 2456206, 2223486, 2458913, 2458912), Amritsar (0183-2221315, 2223175, 2225087, 2560824), Ludhiana (0161-2744702, 2445045), Jammu Tawi (0191-2474757, 2474750), Firozepur (01632-242632, 247491, 249499, 243413, 249355), Pathankot (0186-2220417), Ambala (0171-2610329), Mukerian (01883-244023), Mirthal (0186-267660), Bhangala (01883-2344686, 233887), New Delhi (011-23341074, 23344128, 23342954), Hazrat Nizamuddin (011-24355964, 24359748) and Delhi Junction (011-23967332, 23962389).

And to help relatives and friends of dead and injured passengers, Northern Railway ran two special trains from Jammu Tawi to Pathankot and from Jalandhar Cantt. to Mukerian this evening to carry the relatives of the dead and the injured.

Meanwhile, several trains had to diverted in the entire affected section as railway tracks were blocked due to pile up of the accident wreckage. Some of the trains that were diverted today included Jammu Tawi-Mumbai Central Swaraj Express, Jammu Tawi-Delhi Mail, Jammu Tawi-Delhi Express, Jammu Tawi-Sealdah Express, Jammu Tawi-New Delhi Shalimar Express, Jammu Tawi-Pune Jhelum Express and Pathankot-Delhi Dauladhar Express. These trains were diverted to run via Pathankot-Amritsar-Jalandhar City station.

Similarly, other trains that were diverted to run via Jalandhar City-Amritsar-Pathankot stations included Mumbai Central-Jammu Tawi Swaraj Express, Chennai-Jammu Tawi Andaman Express, Gorakhpur-Jammu Tawi Amarnath Express, Indore-Jammu Tawi Malwa Express, New Delhi-Jammu Tawi Shalimar Express, Sealdah-Jammu Tawi Express, Delhi-Jammu Tawi Express, Pune-Jammu Tawi Jhelum Express, Delhi-Jammu Tawi Jammu Mail and New Delhi-Jammu Tawi Holiday Special. While the Jammu Tawi-Rishikesh Hemkunt Express was cancelled today, its corresponding service between Rishikesh-Jammu Tawi has been cancelled on Wednesday.
