HYDERABAD, DEC. 14. After a gap of nine years, the Andhra Pradesh State Wakf Board has been brought under the administration of a Special Officer once again. The nine-member board, which has been at the centre of controversy ever since the change of guard in the State, is superseded and an IPS officer, Syed Anwarullah Huda, appointed as Special Officer. Mr. Huda, who is the Additional Director-General, Vigilance & Enforcement, took charge on Tuesday from Mohd. Saleem. Mr. Huda was given Full Additional Charge of the board for a period of six months or till the board is reconstituted, whichever is earlier. A GO appointing Mr. Huda under Section 99 of the Wakf Act, 1995, was issued on Monday. During the period of supercession, the Special Officer will exercise and perform all powers and duties on behalf of the board. Mr. Huda refused to spell out his plans and merely said: "Watch out what happens next."Speaking to presspersons, the outgoing Chairman, Mr. Saleem, denied that his removal was under political pressure. However, he hastened to add that he would not approach court. Meanwhile, the Minister for Wakf and Minorities Welfare, Mohd. Fareeduddin, said that the Government superseded the board as it was satisfied that the board was unable to perform its duties. Material available on record showed that the board not only failed to discharge its duties, but its continuance was "injurious" to the interest of wakf in the State, the Minister said in a statement on Tuesday.
