PATHANAMTHITTA, DEC. 15. The Travancore Devaswom Board president, G. Raman Nair, has said that the Board was firm in its demand for delinking of 500 hectares of forestland that houses the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple and the sacred grove from the Periyar Tiger Reserve (PTR). Talking to reporters here today, Mr. Nair said that the previous Public Accounts Committee (PAC), headed by Buta Singh, had recommended delinking of 500 hectares of forestland from the PTR for providing basic facilities to the pilgrims. The PAC had also mooted setting up of a high-level political committee comprising the Union Minister for Forests and Environment, the State Forest Minister and the Devaswom Minister for initiating effective steps to provide fool-proof basic pilgrim facilities at Sabarimala. But it was unfortunate that no such committee had been constituted so far, he said.
