Tributes to MS

SALEM, DEC. 15 . Singing the soulful `bhaja govindam' and other immortal songs, members from various walks of the life in the city paid musical and floral tributes to the great Carnatic singer, late M. S. Subbulakshmi, here today.

Hundreds of singers, amateur artistes, students and teachers from the Salem Music School joined the cream of the society at the Vasavi Hall in paying rich tributes to MS.

Those who participated in the solemn occasion organised by the Nagajothi Sri Muthuswamy Dikshithar Trust, included the Judicial Magistrate No. 1, Malathy Natarajan, the Deputy Mayor, Soundappan, and the BJP leader, Ramesh, along with a few dignitaries.

The singers including Eachankudi Ramamurthi, Vasudevan, K. R. Sundaram, Seethalakshmi, Rajeshwari, Saradha, Neela and others, rendered songs such as Kurai onrum illai and Katrinile varum geetham.

They also recalled the invaluable contribution of Subbulakshmi to the world of music.

A two-minute silence also was observed in memory of the music queen.

The president of the Sangeetha Vidwa Sabha, K. Meera, and the Secretary of the trust, R. P. Gopinath, organised the programme.
