Pondicherry
PONDICHERRY, DEC. 15 . The Pondicherry Chamber of Commerce has urged the Administration to shift hawkers from the Sunday market to other locations. The open-air shopping outlets have come to be known as Sunday Bazaar and the entire stretch of J.N. Street, a big chunk of Mahatma Gandhi Road and a portion of Rangapillai Street are filled with vendors hawking their wares. The general secretary of the chamber, A. Balasubramanian, said that the functioning of the bazaar was causing inconvenience to regular and established shops. He said the chamber felt that law and order problems and accumulation of waste and plastic on the roads could be avoided if the Government set aside an alternative site near the old bus stand for them.
