Granite wall to keep out seawater

PONDICHERRY, DEC. 15. The Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, today laid the foundation for a granite wall on the shore of the Bay of Bengal at Vambakeerapalayam, near here to prevent intrusion of seawater.

The Public Works Department is implementing the scheme at a cost of Rs. 2 crores. A link road would also be laid for the coastal village.

The local legislator, A. Anbalagan, said in a release that in the absence of a wall, huts were damaged in soil erosion.
