Pondicherry
By our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, DEC. 15. In just two months, the Pondicherry State Women's Commission has received 24 complaints from women in both rural and urban areas, drawing its attention to problems they were facing. The seven-member commission, headed by a senior advocate of Pondicherry, Ms. Kamalini, was formed on October 25 in keeping with the provisions of the Pondicherry State Women's Commission Act. The complaints relate to property rights, domestic harassment and mental torture. There were also complaints alleging intimidation when they sought redress from authorities. An informed source said here that awareness of the existence of the Women's Commission here was widespread among rural women who regularly sought its help. The source added that the National Women's Commission had forwarded letters from by young girls to the State Commission for follow-up.
