Ashok Singhal criticises BJP over Acharya issue

By Our Special Correspondent

KOLKATA, DEC. 15. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad president, Ashok Singhal, today criticised the BJP for what he called its "failure to rock" Parliament, currently in session, over the arrest of the Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi.

The BJP should have taken an aggressive position on this, he said at a press conference here today.

He said Parliament could not function for 18 days on the issue of Ram temple issue. The Kanchi Acharya's arrest was a much bigger issue. "He is charged with false cases. We cannot tolerate this."

The BJP had observed a day's fast to protest against the arrest. The next day, it turned to the issue of price rise, he said. "For them, price rise is more important than Hindutva."
