KOCHI, DEC. 15. A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court today directed the State Government to look into the memorandum seeking to issue guidelines regarding the pre-school education and to issue necessary directives to the authorities concerned in this regard. The Bench comprising the Chief Justice, B. Subhashan Reddy, and Justice Kurian Joseph issued the directive when a writ petition filed by V.J. Antony, former vice-principal, and another lecturer of the Cochin College, Kochi, came up for hearing today. According to the petitioners, there should be some guidelines on the admission and teaching in the pre-schools.
The petitioners said that the Indian Academy of Paediatricians had submitted a memorandum to the Government in this regard.
Justice K. Padmanabhan Nair declined a plea by the former Transport Minister, A. Neelalohithadasan Nadar, for summoning G. Sasidharan, former High Court Judge, in the case relating to the sexual harassment of the IAS officer, Nalini Netto.
The court, however, directed the Thiruvananthapuram Magistrate Court where the case was pending to issue summons to C. Vincent, former Treasury Officer, Neyattinkara, subject to the right of the prosecutor to raise objections to the examination of the witness.
Match telecast
A Bench today adjourned to Thursday hearing on a writ petition seeking a directive to the Doordarsan to telecast the ongoing India-Bangladesh cricket match. When the case came up, the court asked the counsel for the DD how much the DD would pay ESPN for the telecast rights.
The counsel then sought time to ascertain about the amount the DD was willing to pay.
CBI inquiry
Justice J. M. James ordered a CBI inquiry into the mysterious death of Anto of Kanjanni in Thrissur. The order came on a writ petition filed by Mini Anto, wife of the deceased, and the Action Council Secretary, K.K. Joy. Anto was found murdered under mysterious circumstances. The police wrote off it as a case of accidental death, according to the petitioner.
Case quashed
The court today quashed a criminal case registered against K.A. Abdul Vahid, teacher at the Madrassa attached to Manikkal Masjid, Venjarammoodu, Thiruvananthapuram, for beating a student with a stick. The police registered a criminal case on the basis of a complaint filed by the father of the child.
The court held that the petitioner had acted within the limit of Section 88 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
