Vidisha student develops Hindi browser

By Our Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL, DEC. 15. Jagdeep Dangi, a computer engineering graduate from Samrat Ashok Technological Institute (SATI) in Vidisha, claims that he has come up with the world's first Hindi browser with Internet Explorer. After obtaining his degree, Mr. Dangi did not go job-hunting. Instead, he spent more than three years developing the Hindi software. He completed his school level education in the Hindi medium and found it very difficult to keep pace with the computer engineering syllabus as the medium of instruction was English at the college level. This eventually propelled him into developing the Hindi software.

The Hindi software package has a set of four different softwares. These include the Explorer/Web browser, English to Hindi or vice-versa digital dictionary, the global word translator and saral Editor. The web browser (Hindi Explorer) is packed with all the functions of Internet Explorer. In addition, it also has extra functions such as opening multiple files, saving files, searching files and has slides, auto history viewers, pop-up blockers, and built-in digital dictionary. The global word translator that comes with his software is an important translator since it can work within any application of Windows (online or offline). The browser can run on all Windows operating systems right from 95, 98, 2000 to ME, NT and Windows XP.

The other important application software developed by Mr. Dangi is English to Hindi or vice-versa digital dictionary, which currently supports 20,320 words and allows users to add more words to suit their requirements. This dictionary enables users to search for synonyms either in English or Hindi within seconds.

Mr. Dangi claims that he was already working on his Hindi software when the Microsoft Chief, Bill Gates, had said during his India visit a few years ago that this country has enormous potential in the IT field. Two young lawyers, Rahul Mathur & Sidhanshu Prakash, are helping him on the copyright front.

Mr. Dangi wants to develop this software in other regional languages and he is also planning to make a separate operating system in Hindi and other regional languages.
