CHANDIGARH, DEC.15. The Haryana Cabinet, which met here today under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, decided to reduce the rates of assessment fee for rum and whiskey from Rs. 15 and Rs. 30 per bulk litre to Rs. 6 and Rs. 24 per bulk litre respectively when supplied to troops through the Canteen Stores Department. An official spokesman said this would provide a relief of Rs. 1.30 crores to the troops during the remainder of current financial year. The Government also decided to permit sale of municipal land to old occupants who had encroached upon it and constructed tenements up to March 31 this year by charging cost of land at the collector rates plus development charges as applicable on regularised colonies. While taking a "humanitarian approach", the Cabinet decided that municipal land which was not affected by any restriction of any department either of the Central or the State Government and did not cause any inconvenience to the public, would be allowed to be sold to these old occupants. The Cabinet also agreed to transfer land belonging to the Government Livestock Farm, Hisar, to Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, free of cost. It also decided to waive off the amount of excess local calls in respect of residential telephones of Ministers as they had made calls beyond the prescribed limit "in public interest".
