COIMBATORE, DEC. 15. The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Coimbatore Kendra, will organise `Nadha Anjali', a musical homage programme in memory of the legendary Carnatic musician, M. S. Subbulakshmi at the Bhavan's premises in R.S. Puram on December 26. The programme will begin with a presentation of a few rare clippings of M.S's concerts and will be followed by rendering of some of her popular songs by leading musicians in the city. The Chairman of the Bhavan, B.K. Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, said, in a release, that M.S. had a special relationship with the Coimbatore Kendra. "Funds were raised out of a benefit concert given by M.S. in the 1960s to purchase a land in which the Kendra stands at R.S. Puram," he noted. The doyen of Carnatic music had been closely associated with the Bhavan from its inception and had given many concerts in many of the Kendras throughout the country and in London and New York, he said. In honour of her stature and her association with the Bhavan, she was made an `Honorary Member' of the Bhavan (Worldwide), a recognition extended to outstanding personalities in the country, Mr. Vanavarayar stated.
