Thiruvananthapuram
By Our Staff Reporter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, DEC. 15 . The Environment and Development Initiatives for Thiruvananthapuram (EDIT), a city-based NGO has urged the State Government to persuade the Centre to get Thiruvananthapuram approved as a permanent venue for the International Film Festival. In a letter to the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, and the Cultural Affairs Minister, A. P. Anil Kumar, the EDIT said the State capital was ideally placed to become a permanent venue for the festival, on the strength of the film culture and an appreciative audience. "Thiruvananthapuram has the highest number of functional film societies in the country. No other city has 12 modern cinema theatres within a radius of 1 km. The existence of a film academy, the Kerala Film Development Corporation, the Centre for Development of Imaging Technology, Film and Video Park and association of film artistes are other factors that add to the appeal of the city as a venue for the festival. The letter said the Government support for film festivals hosted in Thiruvananthapuram had ensured good participation on the part of viewers, critics and film personalities.
