Park to come up on distillery land: YSR

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, DEC. 15. Setting at rest the controversy over the nine-acre Government Distillery land in Narayanguda in city, the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Wednesday announced in the Assembly that it would be used for a park as demanded by local residents.

Intervening during Question Hour, Dr. Reddy, said he was aware of the fact that the previous Government had planned to auction the distillery land through the HUDA and use the funds for the Asian Games. But locals had opposed the move. "Now the mood of the House also seems to be in favour of a park. We will definitely go for it."

`Cancel G.O.'

Replying to the question by Kommireddi Ramulu (Janata Party), the Municipal Administration Minister, K. Ranga Rao, said on a petition filed by locals, the Court had given an interim stay and asked the Government to maintain status quo. In response to Mr. Ramulu's demand that two Government Orders that facilitated disposal of the land be cancelled, Mr. Rao said he would consider after the court's final order.

P. Janardhan Reddy (Congress), too demanded cancellation of the G.O. on putting it to auction.

Market complexes

To a question from G. Kishen Reddy (BJP), Mr. Rao said there was a proposal to develop 16 market complexes out of 24 in various places in the city. The municipal market at Mallepally was being taken up for such development on a pilot basis.
