dated December 17, 1954: Tito in Bombay

Marshal Tito, President of the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia, accompanied by the Vice-President, Mr. Aleksandar Rankovic, some members of the Federal Executive Council and the Commander-in-Chief of the Yugoslav Navy, arrived in Bombay on December 16. He was given a red carpet welcome, and received at the Gateway of India by Mr. Mangaldas Pakvasa, Acting Governor of Bombay, Mr. Morarji Desai, Chief Minister of Bombay, Mr. A.K. Chanda, Union Deputy Minister for External Affairs, and top civil and military officers. The Governor welcomed the Yugoslav President to India in the Yugoslav language. Later, Marshal Tito and party left for New Delhi by a special train. The people of Dhanu, a wayside station north of Bombay, were agreeably surprised, when the train stopped there for a few minutes and the Yugoslav President, coming out on the platform, shook hands with the villagers.
