Blunkett successor named
LONDON: The British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, on Wednesday appointed Charles Clarke as Home Secretary to replace David Blunkett, who resigned following a scandal over a soured love affair. Mr. Clarke (54), currently serves as Education Secretary. He will be replaced by Ruth Kelly, with her job of Cabinet Office Minister going to Junior Education Minister, David Milliband, Downing Street said. There was no word on who would replace Mr. Milliband. The post of Home Secretary is a key one with responsibility for law and order, immigration and counterterrorism. Mr. Blunkett resigned on Wednesday after acknowledging his department had fast-tracked a visa for his former lover's nanny. AP
