BANGALORE, DEC. 16. Mysore Minerals Limited, a State Government undertaking, has come up with an environment management initiative under which rural women will be trained in making objects of art from quarry waste and employment generated for them. The Managing Director of Mysore Minerals, Jija Madhavan Harisingh, told presspersons here today that the project, "ROQWARE" (recycling of quarry waste awareness among women and rural employment) aims at empowering women. In association with Sumangali Ashram, a non-governmental organisation, the project will be taken up in Chamrajnagar, Kanakpura, Hassan, Ilkal, Gulbarga and Mysore. Machinery and space for the project will be provided by the Department of Science and Technology and Department of Women and Child Development. A curriculum has been drafted to train women with the assistance of Smitha Shah, environmentalist and filmmaker. The training programme will be inaugurated on January 26. Initially 1,000 women will be trained in sculpting stone statues and making handicrafts from quarry waste.
