Uttaranchal
By Our Staff Correspondent
DEHRA DUN, DEC. 16. Uttaranchalis can look forward to a further reduction in power tariff with the State Electricity Regulatory Commission reducing the power purchase rate from 37 paise per unit to 29.68. Announcing this here today, the Commission chairman, Divakar Dev said the decision to reduce the purchase price had been taken after a thorough study of production costs over the past 15 years. Power is purchased by the Uttaranchal Power Corporation from the Uttaranchal Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited ( UJVNL) and sold to consumers. The UJVNL had sought an upward revision of the charges which the Commission found highly exaggerated and refused to accept. The Commission has also created a dedicated fund of Rs 95.74 crore for the UJVNL for leveraging investments required for replacement, renovation and modernization of existing assets. Out of this, Rs 86.78 crore was collected by the company from the consumers in excess of the approved rates till March 2004. A high- powered committee, which is already managing the Power Development Fund, would manage this fund, Mr Dev said.
