By Our Staff Reporter

THENI, NOV.16 . The Collector, Sunil Paliwal, on Wednesday said 7,000 tonnes of rice had been sanctioned for the district under the `food-for-work' scheme.

Addressing a mass contact programme held at Anumantanpatti in the Uthamapalayam block near here, he said group houses, inner channel improvement work and rural development work would be taken up under the scheme.

Proposals had already been sent to the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development for laying the 3.5 km-long Aumanthanpatti-Parvathi Parameswaran Temple Street road at a cost of Rs.94.50 lakhs and the 7.8 km-long Oothukadu-Anumanthanpatti road, linking the village with the Uthamapalayam-Bodinaickanur main road at a cost of Rs.2.48 crores. Road-laying work would commence after getting an approval from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development.

To beautify the Suruli Theertham tourist spot and improve infrastructure, Mr. Paliwal said asphalt road would be laid soon. Services of National Social Scheme volunteers and school students would be utilised for cleaning surroundings of the falls site.
