HYDERABAD, DEC. 16. B.K. Somasekhara of the Somasekhara Commission has made it clear to all the witnesses in the Yeluru scam that no further time will be allowed for their deposition. On the second day of the Commission's sitting here on Thursday, Justice Somasekhara, responding to the pleas from witnesses for some more time, said that it could not be granted. Sufficient time was given to the officials to prepare themselves and depose before the Commission, he observed. Public and individual notices were served to the witnesses, he added. He pointed out that the officials would invariably have to depose at the next sitting of the Commission wherever it is held. Four officials appeared before the Commission today. The preliminary sittings of the Commission had been conducted at Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad.
Time granted
The former Principal Secretary (Irrigation), Kosal Ram, sought four weeks time. The Justice gave him three weeks time but made it clear that he had to depose at the next sitting. Similarly, the Managing Director AP Foods, Anitha Rajendra, sought two more weeks. The Chief Engineer (medium irrigation), B. Venkatsuryaprakash Rao, who sought time, was asked to come back on December 23. A retired chief engineer, P. Sambasiva Rao, was the fourth person to be present before the Commission. He was granted one week time and asked to depose thereafter.
