Tirupati
By Our Special Correspondent
TIRUPATI, DEC. 16. The Rayalaseema Hakkula Aikya Vedika floated by the former Kurnool MLA, T.G. Venkatesh, will meet ere tomorrow for an interaction with the elite and intelligentsia. In a note issued here today the Vedika charged the Government with yielding to pressure brought upon it by the Telengana agitation and giving everything only to Telangana while conveniently glossing over the continued drought and famine in Rayalaseema. It also said though the problems of Rayalaseema were in no way less acute than those in Telengana and the uplands of the coastal area, the Government was playing into the hands of vested interests and rushing all relief and aid to the latter regions and not showing the same urgency in mitigating the travails of Rayalaseema people.
Fight inevitable
It was in this context that Mr. Venkatesh remarked that a fight to the finish appeared inevitable to ensure that the chronic problems of Rayalaseema were tackled on par with the other two regions. As for its demands, the forum wanted the problems of Rayalaseema also to be brought under the purview of the Central committee being constituted for separate Telengana. It is of the view that if the `unending' suicides by farmers were to end, the only solution was to divert Godavari water to coastal districts and Krishna, Thungabhadra and Penna water to Rayalaseema.
Water for industries
Another demand to be put forth at the meet here tomorrow is that the Government first supply water to ONGC, Reliance and Kakinada Gas to meet the needs of the industries of Rayalaseema districts through special pipelines and only later meet the needs of other regions in view of the gravity of the problem prevailing here.
