THANJAVUR, DEC. 16 . Land for Tillers Freedom (LAFTI), a voluntary organisation, which made tillers own land through various schemes, has come to the rescue of the flood-affected people in Tiruvarur district. LAFTI volunteers, under the leadership of Krishnammal Jaganathan, wife of Sarvodhaya leader, Jaganathan, and secretary of LAFTI, have been collecting rice and clothes from the people in the district for distribution to flood-affected families. Mrs. Krishnammal visited every house at G. R. T. Nagar, the housing unit and Kamaraj Nagar in Tiruvarur recently and collected rice and clothes from the residents. According to her, 5000 flood-affected families have been identified in Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts and it has been decided to distribute 10 kgs, five kg and three kg of rice, depending upon the size of the family affected, blankets and clothes to the aged people. The rice and clothes, collected so far, would be distributed to flood victims by the volunteers of LAFTI in Tiruvarur, Thiruthuraipoondi, Mannargudi and Nagapattinam areas soon. K.Vengopu, project co-ordinator of LAFTI, C.Veerasamy, Assistant Secretary, and Rajaneedhidasan of Manithaneya Peravai accompanied Mr. Krishnammal and collected relief materials.
