Sonia hosts dinner for alliance partners

NEW DELHI, DEC. 16. The chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance, Sonia Gandhi, tonight hosted a dinner for the constituents of the alliance and supporting parties.

The dinner was part of an exercise to mark the completion of six months of the Congress-led UPA Government. It was attended by a majority of the allies and the supporting Left parties. Prominent among those who broke bread together were the Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad, and his wife Rabri Devi, Chief Minister of Bihar, and the Union Steel Minister, Ram Vilas Paswan, and his wife.

Others who attended the dinner included Union Ministers Dayanidhi Maran, Anbumani Ramadoss and Sharad Pawar.

Ahmed Patel, Ambika Soni, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Jairam Ramesh, represented the Congress.

The Left leaders present were the Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary, Harkishan Singh Surjeet, his CPI counterpart, A.B. Bardhan, the All-India Forward Bloc general secretary, Debabrata Biswas, and the Central Committee member of the Revolutionary Socialist Party, Abani Roy.

The CPI(M) Polit Bureau member, Sitaram Yechury, and his wife, Seema, were also present.
