HYDERABAD, DEC. 16. Students of Dr. Abdul Haq Unani Medical College, Kurnool, along with the Government Nizamia Medical College, Hyderabad, have intensified their stir against reduction of seats for postgraduate courses in Unani medicine. On the seventh day of their stir on Thursday, the students sat on relay fast on the college premises protesting against slashing of PG seats in general medicine, gynaecology, obstetrics and pharmacology. They are demanding that at least 26 seats be retained instead of 10. The students held a black badge demonstration, staged rasta roko at Charminar for some time and closed the outpatient block of the Unani hospital. They distributed pamphlets to the public highlighting their plight. The students are also demanding shifting of the Ayurvedic hospital housed in the only 180-bedded Unani hospital despite having own premises. They said this was one reason for the slashing of PG seats due to lack of infrastructure and space.
