HYDERABAD, DEC. 16. The Hyderabad Police Commissioner's Task Force (West) team on Thursday arrested six members of a gang on the charge of duping several persons to the tune of Rs. 25 lakhs by circulating fake currency notes.
"By adopting different modus operandi, the gang members would lead the clients to believe white papers as fake currency and cheat them," the Commissioner, V. Dinesh Reddy, told a press conference. In some cases, the accused used to fill a suitcase or a wooden box with white paper bundles that were cut to the size of original currency notes, keep some original notes on the top and pass it on to clients as fake counterfeit currency notes. In a few cases, they used to cut black paper to the size of currency notes of various denominations.
Posing as police
In some other cases, the accused used to identify clients coming to them with genuine currency notes for exchange of counterfeit ones through informants. Claiming as policemen, they would intercept the clients, seize the genuine notes and leave the place.
