Two held for robbery

The robbery of Rs. 1.5 lakhs from a racecourse bookie, Yahiya Yousuf, near hotel Nest on the Necklace road on August 29 turned out to be the handiwork of two youngsters.

The Hyderabad Police Commissioner's Task Force (East) team arrested Mohd. Imran Khan, 19, and Mohd. Azeem Khan, 22, in connection with the robbery on Thursday, the Commissioner, V. Dinesh Reddy, told reporters.

They duo, who was in debts, allegedly hatched a plan to commit robbery and secured masks and two swords.

On the day of the robbery, Yahiya was returning home by his van.

The motorcycle-borne assailants intercepted him near the hotel. They inflicted knife injuries on Yahiya, dragged out those travelling by the van, abandoned their two-wheeler and drove away in the van.

Spurious petrol seized

Task Force (West) officials arrested three persons at the Yousufguda check-post and seized 600 litres of spurious petrol. The arrested -- Mohd. Khan, Khaja and Vinod -- confessed to the police that they were selling SBP solvent, a petroleum by-product, at the rate of Rs. 27 per litre after adding red colour to it.

Five held with idols

The Task Force (Central) team arrested five persons and seized 15 antique idols from their possession near Ramakrishna theatre at Abids. The arrested -- T. Vinay, S. Hussain, S. Yadaiah, M. Vimal and Syed Hamed -- were handed over to the Abids police for further action.

Internet café raided

A raid was conducted on `Log-in', an Internet cafe at Tarnaka, and apprehended its managing pattern, N. Srikanth, on the charge of exhibiting porno films on computers to couples by collecting Rs. 75 per hour. Police arrested a resident of Khairatabad, K. Ravi Kumar, and seized equipment relating to video piracy unit and 385 pirated VCDs of various movies.

Cash stolen

Thieves stole Rs. 1.52 lakhs from the side box of a scooter belonging to M. Srinu of Kamalanagar when he parked it in front of a rice shop at Gaddiannaram under the limits of the Malakpet police station on Thursday.

He spotted two motorcycle-borne assailants taking out cash. He raised an alarm and chased the accused in vain, the police said.

Fatal knock

An Intermediate student, Ganesh, 16, died on the spot after a lorry knocked him down while he was crossing the road on Thursday at Kukatpally. A resident of Allwyn colony, the victim was studying in Narayana College.
