BANGALORE, DEC. 16. Traffic on National Highway 4 was disrupted for four hours on Thursday following an accident involving eight vehicles near Nelamangala and a protest by the farmers near Dobbspet. The police said that around 7.15 a.m., when the driver of a lorry carrying onions, suddenly applied the brakes near Kulavanahalli Cross on the highway, another lorry following it, rammed the lorry. This led to a pile-up of four more lorries, a bus and a car.
Three persons in the lorry carrying onions, including the driver, were injured. They were admitted to the Government Hospital in Nelamangala. All the vehicles were damaged.
A protest by the farmers near Yedahalli Industrial Area in the Dobbspet Police Station limits brought vehicular traffic to a halt on the highway for nearly an hour. The police said the farmers blocked the highway in protest against the setting up of an industrial and garbage waste disposal unit in the agricultural fields by the Government.
They also stopped the Tumkur-Bangalore Push Pull train at Dobbspet for about 20 minutes.
The farmers dispersed after the officials assured them that action would be taken in the matter, the police said.
