BANGALORE, DEC. 16. Two persons, including a II PU student, committed suicide in the Vijayanagar Police Station limits in the last 24 hours. The police said Pruthvi Kamath (18), a student of KLE College, committed suicide by hanging herself to death from a ceiling fan at her house in Prashanthnagar around 8 a.m. on Thursday. Pruthvi had failed in the II PU supplementary examination the results of which were announced recently, the police said. In the other incident, Subramanya (33) ended his life by hanging himself to death with a dhoti at his house in RPC Layout around 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Subramanya, who was an LIC agent and running chit fund business, was in debts, the police said. Subramanyamarried Vedarani eight years ago. Vedarani has a daughter. The Vijayanagar Police have registered cases.
Stolen
Telephone cables valued at Rs. 23,000 were stolen from the Sriramapuram Police Station limits on Wednesday. According to a complaint lodged by Veerupakshaiah, Division Engineer of Bharath Sanchar Nigam Ltd., the thieves cut and stole the cables laid from 2nd Main, Prashanthnagar to Lakshminarayanapura Main Road. The Sriramapuram Police have registered a case.
Seized
The City Crime Branch (CCB) officials on December 14 raided four business establishments in Indiranagar, City Market and Upparpet police station limits and seized pirated VCDs, MP3s and audio CDs, in all valued at Rs. 1 lakh. The police arrested the proprietors of the shops, Nayaz Pasha (22), Vivek (28), Akhilesh (19) and K.P. Srikanth (18), on the charge of selling VCDs and audio CDs in violation of the Copyright Act. The police conducted the raids on a tip-off by the Indian Music Industry.
Recovered
The Ramamurthynagar Police on Wednesday arrested Louis Xavier Simon (23) of Anandapur on a charge of theft and recovered from him a laptop and other electronic gadgets, in all valued at Rs. 80,000.
