Two labourers killed as earth caves in

DEC. 17.
Two labourers were buried alive and another was injured when a portion of earth suddenly caved in while they were digging trenches for pipelines for the underground drainage system at Khajamalai here today.
The victims have been identified as Kumar (24) of Thennalur near Viralimalai and Tamizhmani (50) of Govindaputhur near Ariyalur. Ganesan from Thennalur, who was injured, was rushed to the hospital.
The incident occurred opposite to the Anna Stadium here. The labourers were working inside the pit at a depth of 10 to 15 feet when the earth caved in.
The dug up soil heaped on the ground also surged down trapping them. Kumar and Tamilmani died on the spot, while Mr. Ganesan was rescued.The Fire and Rescue Services Department personnel and police rushed to the spot to launch a rescue operation. The bodies were retrieved with the help of an earthmover.
The bodies were later removed to the K. A. P. Vishwanatham Government Medical College Hospital for post mortem.
The K.K. Nagar police have registered a case.
