Bench issues notice to tahsildar

By Our Staff Reporter

MADURAI, DEC. 17. The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court today issued notice to the Paramakudi town tahsildar in Ramanathapuram district in a contempt of court application moved against him.

According to the applicant, K. Ramar of Periyandikulam in Ramanthapuram, the High Court, while disposing of a writ petition filed by him on October 4, directed the tahsildar to release his seized tractor. But the official refused to comply with the court orders.

He alleged that the tahsildar relied upon an order passed by the Assistant Collector on October 5 and demanded Rs. 25,000 to release the tractor, contrary to the High Court order which directed him to pay only Rs. 5,000 as fine.

Arguing for the petitioner, M. Subash Babu contended that not only the tahsildar had disobeyed the court order but the Assistant Collector too had shown disregard by passing a contrary order to that of the court.
