Merger of RRBs suggested

GUNTUR,
DEC. 17.
Employees of Regional Rural Banks have suggested merger of all the 196 RRBs in the country into a single National Rural Bank or one regional rural bank for each State for improving the capital base.
The Andhra Pradesh Regional Rural Banks Employees' Association general secretary, S. Venkateswara Reddy, at a press conference here on Friday said that 16 RRBs of State could be merged into one entity and the deposits deployed profitably to bring all of them out of losses.
Strengthening of the rural banks was essential by providing scope for promotions to employees and beginning recruitment to the handle large turnover now, he said.
