HYDERABAD, DEC. 17. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has urged the State to set up a high-level committee to look into and suggest ways for checking the rising instances of trafficking of minor girls. At a press conference on Friday, the NCW Chairperson, Poornima Advani, expressed unhappiness at the rising instances of Arab Sheikhs entering into contract marriages with minor girls from the city and taking them away to the Gulf. She said the committee, with representatives from the Home, Women and Child Welfare and Tourism departments should come up with a report, including an action plan to solve the problem. She said the NCW had specific information as which of the lodges and hotels were used by the accused, including the agents and drivers, and sought police crackdown on them. "Sexual interaction with a minor amounts to rape and the abettors, including the priest who solemnises the marriage should face the music," Ms. Advani said, expressing displeasure over the lack of prosecution though such instances were being reported.
