TIRUPATI, DEC. 17. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) management is getting ready to break one more barrier to become perhaps the first religious institution in the country to sell its publications online through its website `www.tirumala.org'. The TTD sells thousands of publications, audio/video cassettes and compact discs at its information centres spread across the country. The devotees currently have to either take a demand draft and mail the same to the office or buy the products over the counter and pay by cash. Now, shopping online and making payment through credit card is the third channel that is sought to be introduced by stretching its IT-based applications further. A comprehensive list of publications brought out till now is not available, making it difficult for the public to choose from. It is this void that is also sought to be filled up. According to the plan, the list of publications will be made available on its portal and a customer can browse the list to make an online order. The payment will be made through credit card. As soon as the payment is received, the products will be despatched to the customer. The Devasthanam is learnt to be in touch with a leading merchant banker associated with an authorised payment gateway. "This transaction will be different on the count that neither the TTD nor the consumer will be charged, which means the bank will be providing a free service to the devotees.''
