PONDICHERRY, DEC. 17. The Lieutenant Governor of Pondicherry, M.M. Lakhera, today said that the habit of reading books would always stand a person in good stead. Inaugurating the 8th Annual Book Fair, he said it was the duty of parents to encourage the reading habit among their children. Reading good books helps to enrich comprehension and skill. The Education Minister, K. Lakshminarayanan, said that the Administration had decided to form `Readers Forums' in librariesto help people use books and reading materials. Financial assistance to writers hailing from Pondicherry would be enhanced, he said. Some 100 leading publishers are participating in the exhibition, and 80,000 books in various languages, including French, are on display. The fair offers 15 percent discount on books purchased by libraries of educational institutions; others will get a 10 percent discount.
