Naidu plans campaign on tenders issue

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, DEC.17. The Leader of the Opposition, N. Chandrababu Naidu, today accused the Government of not showing respect to the Assembly by failing to reply to the issues raised by TDP members on the tenders controversy.

Addressing a press conference after adjournment of the House, he said the Government should be accountable to people and condemned the "stubborn attitude" of the ruling party. He alleged that lot of irregularities had taken place and the Government did not follow a "transparent" procedure. Describing the EPC system as a "farce," he claimed that it did not become a success anywhere in the world.

After stating in the Assembly that Rs. 27 crores was paid as mobilisation advance, the Government agreed outside the House that the amount was Rs. 250 crores when press reports appeared to that effect.

Though all parties had demanded that the files pertaining to the finalisation of tenders be placed before the Speaker, the Government did not agree.

Declaring that TDP would take the issue to people, the former Chief Minister reiterated that his party was not opposed to the projects. "We will take facts to people and educate them," he added.
