HYDERABAD, DEC. 17. It was a rare occasion in the Assembly on Friday when a Minister admitted that he himself was not satisfied with the reply, information furnished and action taken -- a privilege normally enjoyed by a member. This happened during question hour. Replying to a question by Jalagam Venkata Rao (Congress) on theft of transformers, conductors and poles used in lift irrigation schemes in Khammam district, the Finance Minister, K. Rosaiah, said he was dissatisfied with what was read out. "It is not believable." He said there was a theft of 9.35 km of conductor of four lift irrigation schemes at Raigudem, Chittaramavaram, Koida and Cherumadhavaram villages in Khammam. Police case was filed by the Northern Power Distribution Company for recovery of the conductor stolen at the Cherumadhavaram lift scheme. The scheme was re-energised. No cases could be filed in three other instances as the schemes were in interior villages.
Action assured
Before any member could raise a question, he said: "Even I am not satisfied. I will now send a senior officer, if necessary of the rank of Joint Managing Director, to enquire into these frequent thefts. Based on the report, we will take stringent action and even invoke the provisions of the Terrorists and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act against the guilty."
