Credit card fraud unearthed

HYDERABAD, DEC. 17. Two youngsters, who had allegedly purchased lakhs of rupees worth jewellery online by misusing credit card numbers of doctors, were arrested by the Musheerabad police on Friday. While the alleged mastermind of the scam, K. Ramakrishna, was a post-graduate in computer sciences, his accomplice, P. Reddappa, was an Intermediate drop-out, a press release said.

An expert in internet-related software, Ramakrishna recently quit his job and was in dire need of money. He hatched a plan with his friend, Reddappa. As per the plan, Reddappa used to meet doctors claiming himself to be marketing executive of a bank, the release said.

He would secure xerox copies of the existing credit cards from doctors and statements of the bank accounts leading them to believe that he would provide them with credit card of the bank "he was working for".

On receipt of details from Reddappa, Ramakrishna used to place orders for jewellery through internet and received the same by courier services at their rented house in Rezimentalbazar in Secunderabad. So far, they had cheated six doctors.

The scam came to light when a doctor G. Bala Reddy received a call from Chennaibazar.com to inquire if he had ordered for jewellery through his credit card. Dr. Reddy grew suspicious as Reddappa collected details of his credit card on Wednesday and lodged a complaint with the Musheerabad police.
