`Sansad Ka Itihas' released

NEW DELHI DEC. 18. The Union Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, today released "Sansad Ka Itihas", a two-volume history of Indian Parliament in Hindi at the India International Centre here. The former Union Minister, Vasant Sathe, and the veteran journalist, Prabhash Joshi, were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Patil paid handsome tributes to the country's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, for laying the foundation of parliamentary democracy in the country and contributing to the erection of parliamentary edifice. He lamented the gradual decline of respect for parliamentary institutions and emphasised the need for developing mass awakening as a bulwark to safeguard democracy and constitutional values.

The book -- jointly authored by the former Secretary General of Lok Sabha, Subhash Kashyap, and the former Professor at the Delhi University, V.P. Gupta, traces the growth of parliamentary democracy in India through various stages.

IRCON awarded

NEW DELHI DEC. 18. IRCON International Limited, a public sector undertaking of the Ministry of Indian Railways, has emerged as the highest foreign exchange earner from project exports by repatriating Rs.221.61 to the country during 2003-04. The Managing Director of IRCON, B.S. Kapur, received two awards from the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, E.V.K.S. Elangovan, at the Export Awards function here on Thursday.

IRCON International Limited has so far won 42 awards from the Project Exports Promotion Council of India.

Corporate Awards presented

NEW DELHI DEC. 18. The Union Minister of State for Company Affairs, Prem Chand Gupta, awarded the Institute of Company Secretaries of India National Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance for 2004 to two private sector companies and one public sector company at Vigyan Bhawan here on Wednesday. While the honour of Best Governed Companies in the private sector was conferred on Hero Honda Motors Limited and Wipro Limited, the honour of Best Governed Company was awarded to the Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited. On the occasion, the ICSI Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred on the Chairman of Mahindra and Mahindra Limited, Keshub Mahindra, for translating excellence in corporate.

Visitors from Jammu

NEW DELHI DEC. 18. About 27 girl students from the remote areas of Jammu and Kashmir will soon be visiting the Capital as part of the Army's ongoing "Operation Sadbhavana''. In Delhi they would visit Raj Ghat, Jama Masjid, Parliament House, Appu Ghar and Birla Planetarium.

These students have already visited Agra, where they have seen the historical monuments including Taj Mahal, Itamad-Ud-Daula's Tomb, Dayal Bagh and Sikandra.
