NEW DELHI, DEC. 18. Failing to draw the attention of the External Affairs Ministry towards their demands by working even on holidays, a dozen members of the All India Passport Employees' Association have now decided to go on a "fast unto death" from December 20 onward seeking implementation of an agreement signed between the Association and the Consular Passport and Visa (CPV) Division of the Ministry. Stating that normal office functioning would not be affected, the Association members said they were sad over the insensitivity being shown by the authorities concerned. They said while the workload on them had increased manifold in the past two decades, their department, which was the sole revenue-generating unit under the External Affairs Ministry, was facing severe staff shortage. The Association members said they had a written agreement with the CPV Division regarding completion of cadre review, holding of annual meetings of all promotion committees, bringing transparency in transfer matters, well-prescribed office procedure with defined job responsibilities, points of check and control, formation of departmental council, reduction of deputation quota and filling up the promotion quota only through promotions.
