Letters to the Editor
Sir, Unable to face the pandemonium in the Lok Sabha, the Speaker, Somnath Chatterjee, has offered to resign. It is time a code of conduct was drawn up for members of Parliament. Unless such a code is enforced strictly, the situation is not likely to improve. It is the country that will continue to suffer due to the delay in legislative business and waste of public money.
E. Sivasankaran,
Sir, The Opposition is making a mockery of parliamentary democracy. But the functioning of the UPA Government is also far from perfect. The problem cannot be solved by relaying the proceedings of Parliament live on television. Erring MPs ought to be dealt with more sternly.
Sir, Mr. Chatterjee's predicament is unfortunate. But he should not lose heart over such happenings. Let us hope the Honourable Speaker will get over his exasperation.
