KALPETTA, DEC. 19. P.A. Mohammed was unanimously re-elected the CPI(M) district secretary of Wayanad at a three-day conference which concluded here this afternoon. It is for the seventh time in a row that Mr. Mohammed is leading the party in the district. A 27-member district committee was also elected at the conference. Nine of them will take part in the State conference of the party to be held in Malappuram next year. The district secretariat members will be elected at the next meeting of the new district committee. Following the death of the senior leader and CPI(M) State committee member, A. Kanaran, a procession and a public meeting scheduled in connection with the district conference was cancelled. Fifteen resolutions were adopted at the conference, which included demand to implement the Nilambur-Nanjancode railway project and construction of the Bairakuppa-bridge connecting Wayanad and Mysore. The conference also decided to launch second phase of the party's agitation from January 20, 2005, demanding the State Government to take steps to solve the agrarian crisis in Wayanad. The CPI(M) leader Kodyeri Balakrishnan represented the State committee at the three-day district conference.
