`Moratorium on non-Kannada films improper'

BELLARY, DEC. 19. C. Ashwath, renowned singer and music director, was of the view that imposing of moratorium on the release of non-Kannada films was improper.

"Art has no barriers. While producing a film, skilled people in the field from different parts of the country work together without any kind of feeling that they belong to a different territory," he said.

Mr. Ashwath was here to perform at the "Gaana sudha" programme at Dr. Joladarashi Doddanagowda Rangamandir organised by the Community Organisation for Rural Educe, Bellary, on Sunday.

He said that producing good films to attract cine-goers, as was done by well-known directors including late Puttanna Kanagal and Siddalingaiah, was the only solution. Mr. Ashwath, who introduced lot of innovativeness in "Sugama sangeeta," said that the State topped the list nurturing and propagating light music. The upper riparian State, Maharashtra, was second, he added.
