BJP keen on forming third front in State

By Our Staff Reporter

PALAKKAD, DEC. 19. The two-day State committee and council meetings of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which ended here today decided to form a third front by roping in discontented parties from the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) and organisations such as the Nair Service Society (NSS) and the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam.

The party all-India general secretary, Pramod Mahajan, while inaugurating the council meeting, presented a five-point programme, Mission Kerala 2006, for the State

Main agenda

The main agenda of the party is to concentrate on 25 to 30 select Assembly constituencies where the party had fared well in the last Lok Sabha elections. In the last Lok Sabha elections, the party had received 12.5 per cent votes, which is a big achievement considering the bipolar political system existing in the State.

Another point the party is banking on is to make full use of the strong organisational set up it has in the State. The party will strictly impose discipline in the party. Party leaders have been directed not to air their grievances in public. All grievances should be taken up with the party State leadership and, if needed, seek the help of the central leadership.

The party has decided to take up important issues affecting the people. The problems of farmers, unemployment, corruption in Government, etc. will be highlighted to expand the mass base of the party.

While keeping its Hindu base intact in the State, the BJP will try to garner the support of the Dalits and weaker sections by taking up their issues. The political resolution adopted at the two-day meeting said that the party would launch the second phase of its Dharma Reksha Yatra to `save' Kerala from the social and cultural fall due to sex scandals and attempts to protect the Industries Minister, P.K. Kunhalikutty, who is allegedly involved in the Kozhikode ice-cream parlour sex scandal.

The youth wing of the party, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, will organise marches at the mandalam-level on December 31. The party will organise Collectorate marches on January 5 followed by panchayat-level dharna in March demanding the resignation of Mr. Kunhalikutty and demanding CBI inquiry into the sex scandals and flow of hawala money into the State.

The political resolution said the UDF and the LDF had failed to protect the interests of the people. While the UDF is facing a crisis due to its appeasement of the Indian Union Muslim League, the LDF is supporting the Congress at the Centre. So the Communists cannot be an alternative to the Congress.
