KURNOOL, DEC. 19. The Minister for Minor Irrigation, M. Mareppa, inaugurated the handloom bazaar at the collectorate here on Sunday. The MLA, M.A. Gafoor, the Mayor, L. Feroz Begum, the Collector, Vikas Raj and others were present. Mr. Mareppa said the complex being constructed at a cost of Rs. 20 lakhs was intended to provide marketing facilities to the handloom workers in the district. He said more than minor benefits like house sites and pensions while a comprehensive programme was required to revive the handloom sector. He promised to relocate the handloom office of the District Manager at Kurnool. The MLA, M.A. Gafoor said the banks were not honouring the artisan credit cards and refused to sanction loans. Feroz Begum asked the Government to avoid middlemen, who were reportedly taking away a larger share of profit.
