By Our Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAH, DEC. 19. The Government sanctioned Rs. 10 crores to give tourism a fillip in Cuddapah district, the DPEP Project Director, K. Chandramouli, said on Sunday.

He inaugurated S.S. Institute and a photo exhibition on history and culture of the district. A suspension bridge at the pilgrim centre, Pushpagiri and a ropeway at the rocky valley at Guvvalacheruvu could attract foreign tourists. Developing Gandikota fort, Guvvalacheruvu and Gunjana falls in the district could attract tourists visiting Belum caves in Kurnool district en route Tirupati.

The Collectorate building, a heritage monument, could house a museum on culture, arts and historical artefacts, if moves to shift the Collectorate materialise, Mr. Chandramouli suggested. Cuddapah Basin was geographically significant one with rich mineral wealth, he observed.

The glorious history of Cuddapah district was being rejuvenated and Hatyarala tank could be developed into a tourist centre, he said.

Exhibition opened

The Collector, Jayesh Ranjan, inaugurated an exhibition of replica of inscriptions and books. The rich culture, heritage and tourism potential would be popularised through Cuddapotavalu festival, to be opened by the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on January 28. Development of culture and arts was also on cards.

The institute founder, S. Seetharamaiah, suggested a `mini-Secretariat' in Cuddapah to hasten development of Rayalaseema region. He wanted the Cuddapah Municipal Corporation shifted to the Collectorate building and relocation of offices of Collector and revenue officials elsewhere.

Mr. Seetaramaiah sought a foot suspension bridge across Pennar river to link various temples of Pushpagiri Math.
