KOCHI, DEC. 19. P.G. Santosh, a headload worker at the Food Corporation of India, will swim a stretch of 32 km from Vaikom to Kochi in a bid to create awareness about saving waterways. The MLA P. Narayanan will flag off the adventure from Murinjapuzha at 7 a.m. on Monday. The MLA K. Babu will receive him at the Marine Drive. The former Tourism Minister K.V. Thomas will preside over the function. Mr. Santosh said he wants to draw attention to the pollution of Periyar and the Vembanad backwaters. He hails from Perumbalam in Cherthala. Mr. Santosh is expected to swim for about six hours. The promoters of the event are the Perumbalam Swimming Club and the Marikar Group.
