BIDAR, DEC. 19. Sri Manik Prabhu Shikshan Samsthan has launched a project to rehabilitate differently abled persons in Humnabad taluk by training them in livelihood skills and integrating them with the mainstream population. Anand Raj Prabhu, president of the samsthan, said in a press release that the Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Suryakant Patil, will inaugurate the Manik Prabhu Community-based Rehabilitation Scheme on December 25.
First phase
In the first phase, the scheme aimed at rehabilitating 1,208 of the 2,236 disabled persons identified in the taluk. This includes 381 women. They will be given training in computer-aided designing, data entry, desk top publishing, dairy technology, chalk making, incense stick making, welding, motor rewinding, electrical trades and other skills. Those below 15 years of age will be educated. They will be trained in different skills after they complete their SSLC, he said. The scheme is estimated to cost around Rs. 65 lakhs and the Union and State Governments have been approached for assistance. Referring to the 159th Datta Jayanti celebrations, Mr. Prabhu said that more than one lakh devotees from Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka were expected to participate in the celebrations at the ashram from December 22 to December 27.
