CHAMARAJANAGAR, DEC. 19. The Chamarajanagar Zilla Panchayat has approved a plan to construct 30 primary school classrooms in the district under 11th Finance Commission scheme. In a release here, it is said that Rs. 19.95 lakhs would be released to the zilla panchayat engineering division and Karnataka Land Army Corporation for the construction of the classrooms. The zilla panchayat also approved a plan for the construction of toilets in 40 schools. Textbooks will be distributed to 1.28 lakh children studying from 1st standard to 7th standard and students from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in high schools. Distribution of free school uniforms to 1.14 lakh children of 1st standard to 7th standard in government schools would also be completed this month, the release said. Around 2,600 students have been brought back to school under the "Chinnara Angala," special admission drive programme, and Education Guarantee schemes. The Education Guarantee scheme aims at providing elementary education to street children and child labourers in the age group of six years to 14 years. Under the Akshara Dasoha programme, midday meals will be provided to nearly 1.10 lakh children in government and aided schools in the district.
