CHENNAI, DEC. 19. A labourer, who was demolishing dilapidated portions of a school in Padi, was crushed to death after a wall collapsed on him today.According to the Fire and Rescue Services Department, the incident occurred around 11.30 a.m. when the workers were demolishing the unused building of the Bhuvaneswari Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Vanniyar Street. A firefighter at the Ambattur station said: "The wall must have been very weak and collapsed immediately after the workers had struck it using hammers. By the time, our vehicle reached the spot, the person was dead." The rescue team had to struggle for nearly two hours to clear the debris, and remove the body, which was then handed over to the police. He has not been identified as other workers fled the spot.
