Misty Monday morning

NEW DELHI DEC. 19. Delhiites would to wake up to a misty and foggy morning on Monday, the weatherman has said. The sky would be partly cloudy with possibility of thundery development in some areas. The minimum temperature is likely to be around 9 degrees Celsius.

While the maximum and minimum temperature at Safdarjung on Sunday was 25.4 degrees Celsius and 7.9 degrees Celsius respectively, at Palam the maximum temperature was 26.6 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 10.1 degrees Celsius.

The maximum and minimum humidity at Safdarjung was 97 per cent and 43 per cent respectively; at Palam the humidity was 95 per cent and 37 per cent respectively.

Army deserter held with ganja

NEW DELHI DEC. 19. A 42-year-old Army deserter was arrested along with his accomplice at Old Delhi railway station on charges of smuggling in ganja from West Bengal on Saturday. The police recovered 102 kg of ganja from their possession.

The accused were identified as Ram Parvesh, a resident of Bakhtiyarpur in Bihar, and Siya Ram, a resident of Gazipur in Uttar Pradesh. They were arrested when they alighted from Brahmputra Mail with the consignment.

During interrogation, Ram revealed that he was inducted in the Army as a constable in 1982 and was promoted to the rank of nayak six years later. In 1994, he posted at Jagdalpur in Madhya Pradesh when he ran away after he was not granted leave. He then came to Delhi and met Siya Ram at Uttam Nagar. The duo came in contact with one Mohammad Ansari who offered them good commission for bringing ganja from Alipore in West Bengal. The accused revealed that before they were caught, they had brought ganja consignments twice. The police have launched a hunt for Ansari, who appears to be a big drug trafficker.

Arrested for robbery

NEW DELHI DEC. 19. Two persons, who were allegedly involved in robbery cases, were arrested from Madipur in West Delhi on Saturday. A country-made firearm and some stolen articles were recovered from their possession.

According to the police, two armed criminals had robbed a Nokia dealer of mobile phones, their dummies, a credit card and some cash at Punjabi Bagh on December 5. Investigations revealed that the suspects would come to Madipur to dispose of mobile phones on Saturday, following which the police laid a trap and arrested them. They were identified as Dinesh and Rajeev, both residents of Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh. The police said Dinesh had done his masters in commerce from a Meerut college but later fell into bad company and started committing robbery.

Robbery accused held

NEW DELHI DEC. 19. One more accused in the sensational Rs. 44 lakh-robbery case has been arrested from Ramlila Ground at Jehangirpuri in North-West Delhi on Saturday. The police also recovered Rs. 7.95 lakhs at his instance.

The accused has been identified as Abid, brother of one of the accused, Asif, who was earlier arrested by the police. In all, the police have recovered about Rs. 40 lakhs from the accused, who revealed that they had spent rest of the amount. Further investigations are on.
